Why I quit gaming

I am a GAMER. I play games on my laptop, on my tablet, on my phone, I don’t have a PSP. I find games everywhere, and even if I was bonded, in a room with no video games, I would make one. Okay, I’m not that big of a video game addict, but yes, I’d say I spend more time on gaming rather than on anything else, even on social media, youtube, or Netflix. And I needed serious help after I saw the biggest rise in the time I spent in video games after my exams. It was day and night gaming for me, and it took me a lot of wondering to notice this problem. And I needed a solution. So all my friends who I know, are facing these issues, make some notes.

First of all, I would like to bring something to your attention. I have started a docuseries named Experiments, in which I would be trying different experience on myself, to create a better me. And if you haven’t already noticed, this is the first of them, so go and click subscribe to get updates.

So I decided a week ago, to delete all games and see how it affects me. The main game pulling my time was Call of Duty Mobile. So I got rid of it. And wow, that did not work out, as I expected. The first 2 days went smooth, I incurred no distraction, and my hopes were high. Day 3, I was scrolling youtube and noticed some videos of the game, so I watched it. Day 4, I deliberately searched up for some gaming videos. And Day 5, the new season rolled out for the game, and that is what my marked the end of my try.

The next thing I tried was deleting my account, it did not work.

I was fed up. So what I did was…SOMETHING. Yes, whenever I wanted to play video games, I occupied myself in SOMETHING. I listened to a new podcast or watched a movie. The most effective way was to just go sit next to my brother, and we would involve in silly acts. The point is, I had finally defeated my addiction. A week ago, my average game time would be 4 hr 46 mins. And I have significantly reduced it to 1 hr 32 mins. So for me, the solution was, “Get involved in something, before you get back to gaming”.

Many of us try to just completely get rid of the thing we are addicted to, but instead, we should just set considerable limits for ourselves that we can follow. Removing something completely is not a solution. Not for a random player, and not for a gaming addict.
